Suicide over mobile phone

A somber mood has engulfed Marindi High school in Nyamira county following the death of Judy Maasai, a form three student who committed suicide after her mobile phone was confiscated. 

The student died after throwing herself into a pit latrine because her phone was confiscated by a teacher .She was found last night by the school’s boarding master using a mobile phone, which was later confiscated since it was against school rules.

Maasi, who was reportedly angered by the action, opened a channel used to drain the latrine and then threw herself in.

Nyamira county OCPD Rico Ngare confirmed the incident saying police are at the school to carry out further investigations.Marindi school rules stipulates that students are not supposed to be in possession of mobile phones.

The police boss also intimated that the process of retrieving her body is underway.
