Don’t sign up for new medical scheme, Kuppet tells teachers

Teachers have been warned against signing forms from the Teachers Service Commission for a proposed medical scheme. The scheme was procured irregularly to fleece teachers, said Mombasa County Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers Secretary Linnet Kamadi.

“From tomorrow, I will be visiting schools to tell our members not to sign any medical forms from TSC because their scheme is riddled with more questions than answers,” she said on Monday.

Most of the medical facilities listed by the AON Minet insurance agency, the provider, were non-existent, while some are only dispensaries that lack personnel and equipment, she argued.

“We cannot allow our members to be hoodwinked with either the TSC-AON Kenya scheme or the National Hospital Insurance Fund, both of which smell and are besmirched with lies,” she said in a telephone interview.

Rolling out the Sh5.9 billion medical scheme last week, TSC Secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni said it would be implemented from July 1, 2015 for all the 288,000 teachers employed by the commission.

In a circular to county TSC directors and heads of institutions, teachers were informed that their medical allowances would be withdrawn beginning July 1.
