A salutation to a Friend

Written By Jane Njeri Thuo

My good friend and colleague got a good job while we were still in school; writing editorials for the star among other duties that are expected of one in a media house. After a few months into her well paying dream job,she felt the urge to quit and indeed she did. She felt that her true calling was in the Public Relations docket and not that of journalism.

To the awe of many she left a job many would bribe and even kill for just to have a taste even for a day. Journalism was an ultimate career for her in the eyes of many and Public Relations was not to be compared to it especially by those who knew little or nothing about it.

Her years pursuing journalism in school would guarantee her a name in the broadcast industry owing to the fact that she had the voice, looks and poise to demand listenership even from a bored household in the late night prime time news.

What made her transition between the two careers was the dunkirk spirit she had all through her life. She kept moving on and pushing herself to excess limits just to reach her dreams or atleast get close enough to smell them. Peoples' opinions were the last thing on her mind and this was a positive contributing factor in her success.

A character that owed many - even her not so good friends was the ability to conform to any curcumstance or situation she found herself in. She could be a classy lady in uptown Nairobi's CBD or a humble chick in downtown areas. All this were embedded in her personality something most would not pull off.

Hanging around her helped me learn some few positive things from her. What i really learnt was that listening or caring about people can never make them happy but if anything it will make you a slave to there opinions. I am a benefactor of her words.

If i said she is without flaws i would be lying because flaws are the superficiality of life and without which we would have uniformity like robots. She is quite a hot tempered lady but not without reasons to make be so. I have seen it quite a times but its not all that trust me,i would compare such instances to eclipses - we all know they happen once in along while.

Through her i was able to work part time while still in campus, she is the kind of person who cannot keep something to herself so that somebody else does not benefit from it. This is a character and a person i felt that needed to be appreciated and know that her efforts are acknowledged.

This is a minute' salute to you Tracy Ominde.
